How to decorate the house according to feng shui?

The ancient Chinese philosophy studies energy flows to show us how we can improve the spaces where we spend the most time. These are the essential rules for feeling happier at home.

1. Throw away what you don't need

Before buying any furniture or decorative object it is even more important to look carefully at everything we already have and make a selection between what we need and what we haven't used in months or years. Ultimately, what we keep is a mirror of who we are, what we like and what we want - so it is not a good start to accumulate appliances that no longer work or dishes that we will never want to put on the table. The same is true for cabinets full of clothes that we no longer wear and will not wear again. Then, staying with only the essentials makes it easy to organize any space and any messy environment affects energy, both emotionally and professionally. It is also important to throw away everything that unconsciously affects us in a negative way, such as gifts we never liked.

2. Place the bed against the bedroom wall
Feng shui tells us that the position of the bed is fundamental to the quality and tranquility of sleep. For this reason, the bed must be the first piece of furniture to be placed in the room and must be leaning against a wall, making it impossible to have any movement behind the headboard. This wall should not have windows and should not be the separation between the bedroom and the bathroom - the plumbing destabilizes the energy and can affect our tiredness. The feet of the bed should not be directly facing the door and, while lying down, we should be able to observe the entire room, which gives us a feeling of greater control and more protection. The same is true for the living room sofas.

3. Take advantage of mirrors
Large mirrors can increase the perception of the dimension of spaces (in addition to reflecting natural light), but in the bedroom, it is important to position them so that it is not possible to observe our reflection when we are lying in bed. The mirror is an energy activator and it is essential to have rest while we sleep.

4. More plants!
Especially in apartments in large cities, it is essential to have a connection with nature at home - flowers, plants, bonsai, cactus or small fruit trees if you have a terrace or balcony. Contrary to what we have always been told, even in the bedroom we can (and should) have plants, which give us tranquility.

5. Attention to materials
From bed sheets to sofas and tablecloths, we should always prefer natural fibers such as cotton and linen and avoid polyester. Wood, cork, clay and porcelain also contribute to creating a more comfortable environment, unlike synthetic materials, which do not contribute to the smooth flow of energy in the house.

6. Avoid storing electronic devices in the room
Like television, for example, which is a stimulating and energy-activating element and, therefore, must be out of our reach while we rest. Most importantly, avoid sleeping as much as possible with your phone near your bed.

7. Have photos of family and friends around you
Good memories and the image of the people we care about contribute to making the space more familiar and comfortable. If your room is a couple room, the rule is the opposite, since having a photograph of a third person (even if it is a child) can interfere with the balance of the relationship.

8. What art?
Having works of art at home is always a good start, because it is wonderful to live surrounded by beautiful things, be it paintings, sculptures or photographs. Still, we have to make sure that we like the pieces and that they give us a good and comfortable feeling. If they have the capacity to cause some sadness or demotivation (for showing a difficult memory or being a gift from an old relationship, for example), we must replace them with others that represent, in some way, what we want for us in the future.
