12 decorating tips for 60 m² apartment

Living in small spaces in large urban centers is almost a rule. However, there are some ways to enjoy every corner of the property and even create a sense of spaciousness. Apartment rented or not, decoration with or without works, there is always a solution.

Proof of this are these 12 projects full of good ideas to be inspired!

1. Multifunctional environments
A single man shares the 60 m² of this apartment with his pet dog. Located in Brooklin, São Paulo, the new property was decorated by interior designer Cristina Barbara. For the best use of the compact plant, the dining room was set up on the veranda and received four Clip chairs, by Fernando Jaeger. A well-resolved apartment in a few square meters!

2. Elements that expand
In Budapest, the capital of Hungary, many old apartments have been retrofitted to suit the contemporary lifestyle. It is the case of this 60 m² property renovated by the architectural firm Studio Nomad. One of the highlights of the decoration is the 4m long counter in the kitchen, which organizes the environment and creates a feeling of spaciousness.

3. Storage spaces
A young man who loves to cook and receive friends lives in this 60m² apartment in Vila Madalena, in São Paulo. The renovation signed by architect Kiko Castello Branco, from Soek Arquitetura, took four months to complete. "One of the highlights is the use of metalwork with wired glass for the upper cabinets of the kitchen, allowing the creation of plenty of storage space without impeding the visual integration between the environments and natural lighting", says the architect.

4. Monochrome decoration
Black and white predominate in the decoration of this 60m² apartment in Moscow, Russia. The project signed by the architect Ivan Pozdnyakov for a young resident adopted white for every corner, from the walls to the custom-made joinery. Even the floor gained a whitish finish. Only a few details bring a touch of black, as is the case with lamps, metals, picture frames and some objects. To warm up the monochromatic and neutral look, the architect invested in different textures, such as velvet and wood.

5. Retractable furniture
The owner of this 60 m² apartment, located in Curitiba, PR, decided to move to the property he had rented a long time ago. But, for that, he felt the need to invest in a good reform. The architect Larissa Lóh was responsible for the project and bet on retractable furniture. The kitchen, for example, gained a retractable table for quick meals, so as not to take up much space. Great solution for small spaces.

6. Floor that integrates
The couple of residents of this apartment, in São Paulo, approached the DMDV Arquitetos office to sign the renovation of the property. As the apartment is small, the architects used the same floor in the rooms to create a sense of integration. The material chosen was vinyl (Tarkett in carambola color), which has a practical and quick application, with freijó wood skirting boards, which have the same tone as the floor. The wood follows close to the doors and appears as a frame, continuing the design.

7. 60 m² to share
This 60 m² apartment in Vila Olímpia, São Paulo, has been fully modernized to become the home of two young brothers. The architectural, lighting and interior design project signed by Flavio Castro favors common use, with the right to loose and hybrid pieces, such as benches and tables, which invite flexible use. “The space adapts to possible scenarios in which activities such as working, eating, cooking, washing clothes, etc., take place in a fluid way.”

8. Doors that integrate and separate
The 60m² property that once seemed claustrophobic has undergone a complete renovation to become a functional and inviting studio in Brasília, DF. The architect Clay Rodrigues, from the office Under the Block Architecture, is the one who signs the project. The integration of environments was the first criterion adopted. In this case, however, it was not just a matter of connecting the areas, but also of transmitting the feeling of being in a larger space. Thus, the walls were removed, giving way to four sliding doors that were installed so that they would be recessed when opened.

9. Flexible spaces
Thinking about making spaces more flexible, the architects Beatriz Fuginaka and Stephanie Wolff, from the WF Arquitetos office, created furniture that reinforces the concept for this 60m² apartment. The TV can rotate from side to side and can be watched in the bedroom or living room. The flexible bed can also be transformed into a sofa on holidays and the kitchen counter serves as a support for the bar and during meals.

10. Remodeling to enlarge
The 60m² apartment by architect Priscila D'Attilio underwent a remodeling signed by the resident. The objective was to expand the spaces and for that the professional gave up environments with partitions. Priscila knocked down the wall of one of the bedrooms, creating a home office integrating with the living room, removed the frame, which divided the balcony room, and also the kitchen door, which gave access to the service area. Everything to create a unique and integrated environment, ideal for gathering friends.

11. Smart joinery
Space to receive friends was one of the main requests of the couple of residents of this 60m² apartment, in addition to beauty and functionality. For this, the architects took advantage of every inch of the property to store the couple's objects and created an intelligent joinery. In the dining room, for example, next to the table, the bench hides a chest on the seat and the cupboard, at the back, looks like a beautiful wooden panel when it is closed.

12. Duplex in 60m²
Located on the top floor of a building in Milan, Italy, this 60m² attic has been transformed into an elegant duplex apartment. Despite having little space, the unlikely location had characteristics favorable to the construction of a house, thanks to the presence of several windows. To facilitate the sectorization of the environments, the architects of the Italian Piùerre office had the idea of designing a mezzanine, where an office and bedroom were installed.
